Who is afraid of Degrowth? A brilliant graphic book by Céline Keller

There is so much to love in this graphic book by Céline Keller smashing the myths about degrowth, filled with quotes from the who's who of both growth and degrowth worlds, juxtaposing their views and really exposing the absurdity of many of the ideas that are taken for granted and lauded as truths in the mainstream.

It argues very clearly the following:

1. Degrowth is not a contraction of growth (recession), but the nemesis of growth.
2. Degrowth is not mini-capitalism, but an alternative system of provisioning.
3. Degrowth is not the end of innovation, but a shift of innovation from commodity problems to community problems.
4. Degrowth is not against human nature, since striving for more money is not a universal objective.
5. Degrowth is not deprivation, but rather a downshift in excessive, polluter lifestyles.
6. Degrowth is not against technology, but argues that it must be culturally desirable.
7. Degrowth is not reactionary, but does reject the assumption of linear progress.
8. Degrowth is not capitalism saving itself, it is a temporary phase to dismantle capitalism to reach a smaller, slower economy that delivers wellbeing within biocapacities.
9. Degrowth is not malthusian, it rejects those forms of authoritarian degrowth.
10. Degrowth is not a utopian blueprint, it is a utopian compass that is a tool for criticism.
