Progress or Sustainability

The business sector has framed ‘progress’ as the goal of economic growth and ‘sustainability’ as the process of ESG. In fact, these terms should be the other way round. To shift to a post growth wellbeing economy, we must wrestle back these valuable terms and restate what the goal of sustainability is about and what the process of progress is for. Jennifer was invited to explore this idea in a keynote to Beyond Growth Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) on 3 Nov, 12-5pm. (A voice recorded version is embedded below.)

MC Tori McNoe guided the audience through a number of presentations including on tax by Gareth Hughes of WEALL Aotearoa and Denise Paterson of Grant Thornton NZ, on decolonisation by Rangimarie Abraham of Kōareare Kaipara, Diana Albarran Gonzalez of the University of Auckland and Esther Gathambo of Sawubona and The ReCreators, and on energy literacy by Gary, Finn and Cyrus of Dark Green Aotearoa.

The event was organised by Geraldine Tew of The Recreators and hosted by Grant Thornton New Zealand.
