What role can investing play in a degrowth transformation of the economy? New Zealand’s Impact Investing Network (IIN) has begun to explore the potential for funds managers to help engineer an economic system breakthrough, pinning a spotlight on the idea of degrowth-aligned investing. The IIN, a peak body dedicated to expanding the impact investing sector in Aotearoa New Zealand, and Trust Management, a purpose-driven financial services firm, together invited Heliocene to present to a gathering of key local stakeholders to help initiate this new conversation.
The presentation began with the “battle for the sustainability narrative”, critically examining sustainable growth theory, highlighting its limitations, and introducing degrowth as a rational alternative. It then explored “degrowth-aligned investing”, focusing on how investors can strategise, plan and approach investing in a degrowth paradigm.
Heliocene thanks Tan Huynh and Raphael Rauner at IIN and Mark Longbottom at Trust Management.
